Spring, the season of new beginnings.
It is universally acknowledged that the beginning is always the hardest. The mere thought of starting something new (let’s call it the Big Idea) is almost always exciting, but it comes with an undesired parasite, Fear. Fear of the unknown and fear of failure is enough to eat away your Big Idea and cripple your limbs from taking the first step - also enough to push you two steps backward (or more, if you let it consume you).
For years I’ve documented travel-related content in the form of photos and words as a souvenir for myself; for friends and family when we reunite; or even as reference for the next friend/family/acquaintance for their future trips. Pictures for everyone, but words mostly for myself. After years of helping those near and dear to me, I’d now like to try and give a helping hand to whoever’s reading this, BOTH in the form of photos, words and the occasional Boomerang if need be.
As predicted, I distracted myself with a million reasons to not entertain my curiosity of publishing travel-related content (or at least create a photo and/or writing-based portfolio) for the public eye to consume and scrutinise, heck, even shutting down this crazy thought and attribute the lack of opportunity to me not being “good enough” or not having enough experience to deserve a spot for my voice to be heard, all because the opportunity has yet to be served to me on a silver platter. Indeed, I allowed fear to consume my curiosity and blame the lack of opportunity in the market. Let’s not forget the multitudes of events and obligations that life consumed my time with as well as the instances when I barked up the wrong tree thinking that those are the opportunities (opportuni-trees?) I ought to chase after, but deep down I don’t want it as much as the next person.
Also, I’m letting this post remind me that dreams don’t work unless you do, and that life’s too short to continually weigh the pros and cons of trying something new. I’m no fortune teller, so I won’t be able to ever tell when exactly is the “perfect” time. Why not #justdoit, pave the way to where I want to be (i.e: creating content surrounding travel and social media), and see where this self-made pavement takes me to?
(Hopefully not to the gutter of dreams!)
So, in conjunction with the shift of seasons, it’s time to spring on this opportunity and make a commitment to myself by updating this Instagram profile on a regular basis. I’m also a little bit late to the party, but I’ll be launching this space as a travel and social media-related blog within the next few weeks (with the help of Squarespace) which will mainly showcase travel and social media tips (and how the two work hand in hand before, during and after your travels). The reason behind this is that I want to utilise my professional skills in social media towards building a writing and photo-based portfolio surrounding travel. In other words, this is my attempt at creating a canvas where personal interest (in travel/writing/photography) intersects with professional knowledge (in social media), and there's no better place to practice other than in the space I call my own.
Keep your eyes peeled on this space and my social media assets for the latest updates of what’s to come on my blog! Meanwhile, feel free to check out other blog posts I’ve created previously (travel-related ones and also just for funsies).
It may be scary, but I’m super duper excited and I can’t wait to share valuable travel and social media-related tips with whoever’s that reading this! #makeyournextmove
